Corny or sweet?
If you talk to women about poetry, they will probably tell you that it wasn’t the poetry that made the difference… but it depends on the context on whether a poem is corny or endearing. And many guys are unsure about writing poems for their girlfriend. Will writing a poem for your girlfriend, or reading one to her, come across as corny? Or is there still a place for old-fashioned romance?
But the real question is… why are you doing it? If you can turn to poem to elicit the response you want from your girlfriend, then you may be very talented and poetry is perfect. On the other hand, you may feel that there is no other way to communicate what you want to say. In that case, developing your communication skills is probably going to have more of an impact than trying to write sweet poems for your girlfriend.
This is not to say that reading a girl a poem, or writing a poem for her, is not going to have an effect. It’s just that learning to communicate is more powerful and will have a longer lasting impact. Most importantly, other things can be a lot easier to sustain over the course of your relationship. Let me explain what I mean by exploring the strategy of reading a romantic poem to your girlfriend just to elicit a particular response.
It’s all about her emotions…
You know that if you read a girl a poem, and you have some success with it, then she will have some sort of an emotional reaction. Now this reaction is going to last for a certain period of time and it may even create a shift in the way that she sees you or thinks about you. But are those feelings really going to last for more than a few days?
Even if you write the greatest poem in the world for your girlfriend, she won’t remember it forever. This is what makes poetry unsustainable. Unless you continue reading and writing poems for the rest of your life, she is eventually going to forget about your gesture and the impact is going to fade. There has to be more to the relationship that trying to come up with poems for your girlfriend in order to keep her interested.
How likely is it that you will be able to keep digging up new poems and getting that same response? I think that it would be much smarter for guys to work on basic flirting skills like making eye contact with girls and projecting their sexual intent through their eyes, or working on their body language, or developing some alpha characteristics. Alpha characteristics are things like standing up tall, being still with your body, and keeping your arms and legs uncrossed so that you appear more open and approachable.
Push her, then pull her…
It is also a good idea to work on some basic push-pull strategies. The push-pull philosophy is where you pull a girl towards you by giving her a compliment, and in the next breath you push her away. She will experience this sensation of being drawn towards you and pushed away, just like a magnet. When you start to push a girl away, she becomes positively charged and will feel the urge to be pulled back towards you so that she can experience those good emotions again. Working on those three skills in particular will be far more powerful than relying on poems.
Surprisingly enough, there are girls that will fall head over heels for a guy that knows his poetry. There are other women that will laugh directly in your face and worse – behind your back with their girlfriends. You thought you lost a chance with one woman and now, there are six women that have just become ‘untouchable.’ And here’s the thing – The women it might work with probably aren’t the women that you expect and the women that appreciate it have seldom had a guy try it.
