Restaurant dates are tough.
One of the reasons I try to stay away from restaurant dates is that there are challenges and limitations with how we can escalate in a restaurant date. The first obvious challenge is how to verbally escalate. We feel like there are a lot of people around us, and they’re going to be eavesdropping. It can hence be challenging to move the conversation in a sexual direction.

It’s also challenging to physically escalate, because usually you’ll be sitting on opposite sides of the table. That makes it incredibly hard to kiss a girl. Indeed, it’s not really an environment in which kissing a girl is considered regular practice. If I’m going to sit down on a date where we’re going to have something to eat and hang out a little bit, I would much prefer a scenario in which I’m at a bar, or even a pub, and we can actually sit together at a booth side by side, allowing me the opportunity to physically escalate. Another alternative is to sit together on barstools, and we can basically sit on one corner of the table.
That way a couple of things happen…
The first thing is that the environment is quite a bit louder. You’ve usually got a little bit more space. You can start to move the conversation in a sexual direction. You are in a position where you can still stay relaxed, but also choose to physically escalate. Moreover, you’re now in an environment where it is seen as being socially acceptable for two people to make out. Just by setting up a date in such a place, you’re already 200% ahead of where you would be if you were in a restaurant setting.
Create a moment.
In terms of moving the interaction towards a kiss – I like to create moments. That can be where mid-way through the conversation I just pause for a brief second and cause a bit of tension. It’s almost like I’m distracted by her lips. That will subtly start sending the cues to her subconscious brain that I’m thinking about kissing her.
Try this…
You can further move this process along with some verbal phrases. You may for example ask her for some lip balm and say to her, “Not that I’m presuming anything, but just in case.” It might be that you are looking at her lips and you tell her, “I’m trying so hard not to kiss you right now.” Then what you want to do is just continue with the conversation.
It’s like you’ve just thrown a little bit of a pebble and then you’ve kept moving. The pebble lands, but she doesn’t have time to recognize what’s happened. She accepts it on a subconscious level. That way when you do progress to a level where you are ready to kiss her, she will be more likely to be ready too.
